Pittsburgh, PA – April 15, 2008 --[ASDWire]-- Integran Technologies USA Inc., a leading company in the area of metallurgical nano-technologies, has announced today that it has been awarded a Phase I SBIR contract by the US Department of Transportation (Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, Cambridge, MA) to evaluate the use of high strength nanocrystalline metal-based materials as crack arrestors in high strength steel gas pipelines.
“The proposed nanotechnology approach holds the real promise for developing effective crack arrestors for gas pipelines and can also potentially be used for in-situ structural repair and reinforcement of degraded pipeline infrastructure, offsetting disruptive and costly pipeline replacement initiatives” said Dr. Virgil Provenzano, a Senior Scientist with Integran Technologies, USA.
The US DoT SBIR Program (Small Business Innovation Research) provides early-stage research & development funding directly to small US-based technology companies.
