LINE develops Iraq and Afghanistan Cultural Awareness e-learning for the MOD

LONDON, 31st May 2006 --[ASDWire.com]-- LINE Communications Group, a leading provider of e-learning and communications solutions, has been commissioned by the Directorate of Individual Training (Army)’s Training Advisory Group to develop two suites of courseware on raising cultural awareness for personnel serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

LINE, in conjunction with Headquarters Directorate of Educational and Training Services (Army), is developing a blend of on-screen activities, classroom based presentation materials and electronic resources to cover the requirements of each project. Video based scenarios and a commander’s briefing pack will be key features of the courseware.

Each project consists of approximately two hours of SCORM 1.2 conformant e-learning material. This will be accessed over the Defence Learning Portal (DLP) and will comply with a challenging range of MoD technical and accessibility requirements. Personnel from all three Services, Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force will use the courseware as part of their pre-deployment preparation.

A central theme in both projects is that the subject matter focuses on the learner’s attitudes and preconceptions. The aim is to establish how different the learner is to the Iraqi or Afghani citizen, not the other way around. Through a series of highly interactive, visually stimulating and realistic scenarios, the courseware will provide an understanding of how the actions of service personnel will be interpreted by ordinary citizens in the host nations.

HQ DETS (A) is heading up the project for the three services. Brigadier Tony Brister, Director of Educational and Training Services (Army) says “Cultural awareness is an integral and necessary component of operational training. By providing cultural awareness training through DLP we are inviting all ranks throughout the MOD to develop their knowledge of cultural awareness. Learning will take place at the individual’s own pace and can be accessed at any time prior to, and during deployment. This is an exciting project and shows that we are continually striving to provide our service personnel with the most current training techniques.”
