U.S. Army Special Operations to Use Simauthor Flight Visualization Software to Improve Crew Readiness

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky., Jan. 3, 2007 --[ASDWire]-- The U.S. Army’s Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training & Instrumentation has awarded aviation data analysis and visualization expert SimAuthor Inc. a contract for the installation of its FlightViz™ Data Acquisition and Playback system, along with operator and instructor training services.

The software system will be used by the 160th U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) to debrief and increase the readiness of airborne regiment crews training in helicopter (MH-60K and MH-47E) Combat Mission Simulators.

FlightViz provides a visualization environment that instantly creates real-time, interactive, high-fidelity graphical depictions of flight and simulator data. The tool is capable of analyzing complex aircraft data and then quickly communicating the training and safety implications of that data to pilots, management and other non-technical audiences.

For the past four years, FlightViz has been used for aircraft mishap analysis in SOAR’s safety department and, together with its complementary application FlightAnalyst™, has been used in the Army’s Military Flight Operation Quality Assurance (MFOQA) initiative. Flight Viz also was selected as a key component in the Smiths Aerospace MAST (Maintenance, Analysis, Safety & Training) program for MH-47G aircraft.

Based in Boulder, Colo., SimAuthor provides aircraft and flight simulator operators around the world with the ability to satisfy their demand for measurably lower operating costs and increased returns on invested capital via its propriety visualization and analysis products and services. SimAuthor is a wholly owned subsidiary of Westar Aerospace & Defense Group, Inc.
