Roush continues to diversify its military business

UK MoD DVD Show 2007 - Roush Europe – Stand OR46

12th June 2007 --[ASDWire]-- Roush Europe is to unveil no less than three new military products when it returns to the UK’s Defence Vehicle Dynamics Show at Millbrook, Bedfordshire later this month (27th & 28th June 2007).

Roush’s successful 6x6 Lightweight Air-portable System (LAS100RE), designed for special operations, has been further developed - a new 2-seater configuration, up-specified and re-engined for increased speed and performance will be announced. Roush’s Diesel Quad bike programme returns – but with a now super-charged Lombardini twin-cylinder diesel engine, which provides a significant increase in power.

Appearing for the first time in the UK, is the new Roush LTATV (Light Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle), a joint development programme between the company’s US and UK based military engineering operations. Based on a standard COTS 4x4 ATV product, Roush has applied not only the up-rated super-charged diesel engine, but also a militarised and fully air-portable body and cargo carrying package. The project is derived from a US NATC trial, following which Roush won a development contract to develop a light, wheel steered platform.

In addition to its vehicle development based programmes, Roush has continued to expand its design, integration and special applications work for the military, homeland security and civilian markets. Projects include overt and covert conversions, complex installations and special applications. The company has also established a number of alliances and commercial partnerships, designed to enhance the company’s position as an active participant for future requirements, bids, contracts and UOR’s (Urgent Operational Requirements).

Lightweight Air-portable System (LAS100RE)
The latest version of Roush’s 6x6 special operations platform has been developed by the company’s recently established Specialist Vehicles Group. The variant now offers a 2-seat configuration forward, with payload capability retained at 1000 kilograms. The design can be adapted to suit specific applications. Kerb weight remains exceptionally light – just under 800 kg – making the complete unit readily deployable by rotorcraft. Overall dimensions permit internal air-portability with both CH47 and C130.

The Roush LAS units in current service with UK MoD have demonstrated exceptional mobility in a variety of operational theatres. With an approach angle of 81 degrees, a departure angle of 50 degrees – and a laden traversing stability is 25 degrees, the unit is extremely stable in rough conditions.

The LAS100RE also gets a new 1.4 litre turbocharged direct injection diesel engine developing 50 Kw and 160Nm of torque. The fuel system is designed to accept Diesel 1 and 2, JP8, JP5 and B20 bio-diesel. Automatic transmission and permanent all-wheel drive is retained. A fully NATO compliant 24 volt electrical system is incorporated, with a high performance, high output alternator. The unit also incorporates full EMC protection.

LTATV (Light Tactical All-terrain Vehicle)
Roush’s all new LTATV utilises the super-charged twin cylinder single overhead camshaft diesel engine common to its diesel quad bike. Developing 24 bhp and a massive 44 Nm of torque, final drive is delivered through an automatic CVT system with EBS, to switchable 2/4-wheel drive, with diff-lock.

Overall dimensions are constrained to give the unit optimum flexibility in operation. Rack capacities are 136 kg on the front and 272 kg for the rear. The unit also offers a towing capability of 680 kg.

The LTATV is designed to carry a forward facing crew of two, plus an optional rear facing crew member position if required. Rollover protection to SAE J2194 ROPS standard is fitted, including fold-down pins for air-portability. The vehicle also includes three light machinegun mounts, all-terrain tyres with run-flat systems, a 4000lb synthetic winch rope and both white and IR driving lights.
