TEAC Aerospace to Supply Digital Video File Servers to United Airlines
Monterey Park, CA - September 13, 2007 --[ASDWire]-- TEAC Aerospace, the leading provider of in-flight systems to the airline industry, announces a contract award from United Airlines for its hard disk digital video reproducer, the VE-801HDi. The units will be installed on Airbus 319/320 and Boeing 757, 767 and 777 aircraft and will replace existing tape video systems on the airlines’ 269 aircraft. The multi-million dollar contract will begin installation in late 2007.
The VE-801HDi video reproducer unit (VRU) can replay up to 60 hours of MPEG video, utilizing its 120 GB hard disk drive memory. The VE-801HDi can replay scripted video sequences automatically ensuring playback continuity for each flight. The unit accepts MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video regardless of bit rate allowing the airlines to utilize existing encoded video. Built to established in-flight and avionics standards, the VE-801HDi is a cost-effective digital replacement for currently installed Hi-8mm and VHS tape-based systems.
“Value to the traveler with extended video playback as well as clean digital video reproduction are things that the VE-801HDi provides” according to Dan Vargas, Director, IFE Programs, TEAC Aerospace Technologies. “The unit’s proven reliability also provides value to the flight attendants and maintenance personnel, who benefit from the scripted playback, ease of operation and dependability. The VE-801HDi also provides a plug and play upgrade that can be easily installed on virtually all existing distributed systems using tape reproducers.”
“TEAC is pleased to be selected by United Airlines, whom TEAC values as one of our Premier IFE customers” stated David Husted, Chief Executive Officer, TEAC Aerospace Technologies. “This order builds upon our long standing relationship with United Airlines as we look forward to this very important program.”
