Ultra Electronics - Tactical Communication Systems Division announces the successful testing of the ''Enhanced Power Mode'' of the software-defined AN/GRC-245 HCLOS(tm) radio

Montreal, December 20, 2007 -[ASDWire]- Ultra Electronics - Tactical Communication Systems Division (TCS) announces that the new “Enhanced Power Mode” (EPM) function of the AN/GRC-245A HCLOS™ radio was successfully tested by the United States Military. The HCLOS™ radio carried 16Mbps of full duplex traffic simultaneously, effectively 32Mbps of traffic. EPM increases the radio’s transmitter power with no degradation to any other performance parameter to achieve extended communications ranges while maintaining high link reliability at full traffic capacity. This enhanced operational performance capability clearly establishes the position of HCLOS™ as the standard for tactical trunk radios on the battlefield.

EPM is enabled as a software-only upgrade to the HCLOS™ 16 Mbps radio. It is the first of several planned software-enabled enhancements that will be introduced in 2008. “We are very excited to have successfully launched into our enhancement roadmap for the HCLOS™ radio, one that will see Ultra-TCS roll out several new and improved operational capabilities in the next 12 months and beyond”, states Alan Barker, president of Ultra-TCS.

The AN/GRC-245A HCLOS™ is a software-defined radio and the only one of its class operating on the Software Communications Architecture open framework to facilitate waveform portability.
