Roush Technologies wins major ROPS order
The Roush Technologies ROPS multi-seat package has been designed primarily to offer an enhanced seating capability for troops to travel safely in the rear of UK Forces’ fleet of MAN 4x4 and 6x6 support vehicles – although the system can be configured to suit virtually any platform. The 2-section modular assembly is available as a 6-seater or an 8-seater configuration – to provide optimum flexibility of use between support vehicles in current and future service. The system encases each occupant within an individual safety zone and has been designed to comply with both agricultural rollover regulation 77/536/EEC and coach rollover regulation ECE R66. The design has undergone – and exceeded – exhaustive safety tests, including rollover trials carried out at the Cranfield Impact Centre.
Each frame module accommodates a series of two-part vacuum formed ABS seats, plus a 4-point quick release harness. Clearances have been designed in to accommodate a soldier in body armour, a webbing kit and battle helmet. Stowage is provided for a standard Bergan and a clamping arrangement is fitted to secure a weapon.
Each ROPS frame has a mounting system compatible with both the MAN fleet and legacy vehicles interfacing with existing fittings on the vehicles. The modules are fitted with end-mounted fork pockets, to facilitate handling and installation. Frames are finished in a Nylon R polyamide coating. The system has attracted significant interest already from other defence procurements organisations around the world.
Roush Technologies’ Business Development Manager, Bill Waddell says, “The ROPS programme is an excellent example of Roush Technologies’ ability to fulfil major Tier level supplier requirements for prime contractors. It also demonstrates the increasing diversity of our defence engineering capability – which includes base design, vehicle integration, VIK programmes – and of course, the already successful high mobility lightweight air-portable battlefield mule platform and the Diesel Quad Bike”.
