Northstar Network Receives Follow-on Orders from Lockheed Martin Aeronautics on the P-3 Service Life Extension Program
Sept 2, 2008 – St. John’s NL --[ASDWire]-- Northstar Network Ltd. (Northstar) announced today that Lockheed Martin Aeronautics has uploaded purchase orders for 28 shipsets in follow-on work for Northstar under the P-3 Service Life Extension Program. This is in addition to the initial award for 6 ship sets for the 6 Norwegian Planes, and is worth approximately $4M US in additional revenue to Northstar over the next year.
“This is a very exciting time for Northstar as we ramp up for full scale production of these parts, and these increased orders show the confidence that Lockheed Martin has developed in our ability to produce legacy aircraft parts,” says Howard Nash, President of Northstar Network.
Under Lockheed Martin Aeronautics’ P-3 Service Life Extension Program, Northstar manufactures finished components and assemblies for new production service life extension kits for the P-3 Orion wing upgrade. These components add more than 15,000 flying hours to each aircraft, representing 15 to 20 additional years of service for this critical maritime patrol and reconnaissance resource.
Northstar is responsible for supplying approximately 400 parts and assemblies per aircraft, or about one fifth of the total parts required under the wing upgrade program. These parts and assemblies primarily include machined parts and formed sheet metal assemblies of various levels of complexity in aluminium and alloy steel grades, and range from simple structural members to flight critical components.
“While Northstar continues to expand on its valued work for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics on this and other programs, we would also like to attract the attention of companies like Bombardier and Boeing. These companies too have legacy aircraft requiring parts with similar challenges and requirements, and we would be pleased to contribute our capabilities to such programs” said Mr. Nash.
