Terma Contracted by BAE Systems for the Supply of F-35 Horizontal Tail Parts

Paris, Tuesday 16, 2009 --[ASDWire]-- Today, BAE Systems awarded Terma a contract for the F-35 Low Rate Initial Production Lot 3 for the delivery of machined parts for the Horizontal Tail for the Short Take-Off Vertical Landing (STOVL) version of the aircraft.

The contract was signed at Paris Air Show as a follow-up on a 2006 Letter of Intent.

During 2010, Terma will deliver 50+ different machined aluminium parts for the Horizontal Tail of the F-35 STOVL version. This project is the first Terma F-35 deliveries to BAE Systems. It aims to prepare Terma to deliver complete Horizontal Tails from LRIP 5 and on for this specific version of the aircraft.

“Terma is very pleased with this important contract from BAE Systems and we are looking very much forward to entering into a long-term cooperation on this exciting program. Participation in the F-35 program is based on a Best Value approach, and with this contract, Terma proves that we can deliver world-class high-tech solutions at competitive prices. Our staff and manufacturing facilities are in constant development in order to maintain our position as one of the world's leading manufacturers of structures for aircraft”, says Senior Vice President Erik Laursen, Terma.

“Whilst this initial contract is small in its relative size, it establishes the critical first steps on the journey that BAE Systems and Terma have commenced, which is aimed at developing a robust capable and affordable manufacturing solution at Terma that will have the essential capacity to support the full assembly of F-35 STOVL Horizontal Tails in the LOT 5 timeframe in Denmark”, says BAE Systems’ International Industrial Participation Programme Manager John Dunstan.

The Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft is one of the candidates to become Denmark's new fighter aircraft.

With this contract, Terma now supplies a range of components for the F-35. This includes conventional edges for the aircraft wings and parts for the fuselage, gun pods and pods for advanced test equipment, and high-tech electrical components.
