Independent tests further substantiate Zephyr SRV's credentials

Wednesday, 23rd December 2009 --[ASDWire]-- The latest phase of Creation’s in-house design, development, test and trials programme for its Zephyr SRV (Specific Requirements Vehicle) protected platform has provided further confirmation and conclusive evidence of the vehicle’s overall capability, particularly blast survivability performance. The most recent tests, undertaken for Creation by a leading independent test organisation, were strictly conducted, monitored and verified in accordance with international standards – and exceeded all expectations. More detailed information cannot be released.

Creation Managing Director, Bill Davis says, “Design for survival – particularly blast - is about predicting the unpredictable. Our job as development engineers is to materially and mechanically minimise, mitigate and manage as much of the inherent risk and threat as we can. To that end, the Zephyr platform is performing exactly as it is designed to do – particularly in the way the integrity of the occupant survival cell is retained.

“As a independent design house, running our own test regime, with specialist niche and impartial agencies, offers real and important benefits. These include greater freedom to up-specify and fully instrument specific elements under test and to capture additional data. This then allows us to analyse the results in much greater depth – and apply advanced modelling and simulation tools to support future development. It is a process – not an event. As a result of the latest tests, we now have a very detailed understanding of the intrinsic qualities and behaviour of our occupant survival cell and the base vehicle platform. In particular also, we have gained empirical evidence that our radical new concept blast seat design represents a step change in current practice for crew accommodation”, says Bill Davis.

The new Zephyr SRV, announced in mid-2009, is an all-new protected vehicle platform based on modular principles to provide high survivability, multi-role operational flexibility - and optimum mechanical and logistics serviceability.
The inclusion of a composite ‘occupant survival cell’ is a central feature of the design. Surrounding protection includes a V-form belly plate and an integral blast mitigation system. Independent height adjustable suspension is included to adapt ground clearance, ride and handling to suit operating conditions – and to assist further with blast mitigation. Zephyr SRV is also able to carry a range of roof-mounted options, including protected or remote weapons stations (RWS).

Creation’s Zephyr SRV and related programmes have attracted substantive interest in a number of world markets and its current testing and trials schedule is geared to moving forward with international partners within prescribed timelines. The company, which recently moved into its new engineering facility in Hook, Hampshire, is pressing ahead with a pre-production batch of Zephyr SRV 4x4 variants, which will be completed early in the New Year.
