Codan Announces Radio Communications Division
Division restructured to focus on broader radio and interoperability systems
DSEi, London (Booth N4-571) - September 13, 2011 --[ASDWire]-- Codan Limited (ASX-CDA) announced that it has restructured its HF (high frequency) Division and renamed it the Radio Communications Division, to reflect a broader focus by the Company on integrated radio communications systems and solutions. The Radio Communications Division now provides integrated communications systems, growing its traditional HF product line by adding multi-spectrum radios and interoperable solutions.
"Codan has a fifty year legacy of providing reliable high frequency communications. Restructuring the Division has been undertaken to carry the Company through the next decade and beyond," said Kevin Kane, president and executive general manager of the newly formed Radio Communications Division. "The new Division is structured to better address the interoperability challenges of both our traditional humanitarian and commercial customers as well as our newer military and security customers."
The Radio Communications Division comprises an HF and systems engineering department that focuses on developing new radio capabilities that improve the ease of use of Codan systems, while increasing communications performance and reliability.
"Successfully 'cross-pollinating' radio networks among peacekeepers, security and military users requires radio communications systems that can keep the right doors "open" for modes of operations to allow interoperable communications, while providing the features that keep information secure," said Kane.
Emblematic of the new focus, Codan's Radio Communications Division is delivering newly developed interoperable radio systems, developed specifically for these environments. The Codan MRX Series, a scalable and interoperable communications system, has been frequently used to support border control and counter narcotics programs in Central Asia and elsewhere. The MRX Series is based upon Codan HF radios, and provides a fully ruggedised (MIL-STD-810F) field-deployable headquarters system supporting an array of voice, data, and interoperability capabilities. The MRX provides an instant communications backbone and hub for use in remote and hostile environments such as Afghanistan.
The key advantage of these systems is that individual radio systems and networks do not have to change their existing crypto and frequency plans. Instead, centralised control allows the linking of radio nets specific to the mission at hand. The MRX enables communications managers to interface radio nets to telephony and IP data networks in addition to VSAT and BGAN satellite systems so extending the full spectrum and reach of communications to support larger operation.
Demonstrations of the Codan high frequency radio communications can be viewed at the Defence Systems & Equipment International (DSEi) trade show in London at booth #N4-571.
