Kongsberg Gallium Announces Company Name Change: Now Kongsberg Geospatial

Kongsberg Gallium, an Ottawa-based developer of real-time, mission critical, geospatial visualisation software, announced today that they will be changing their name to Kongsberg Geospatial Ltd., effective immediately. The move is part of a comprehensive rebranding strategy to more effectively align the Company’s name with its future strategy and functional role as part of the Kongsberg family of companies. The Company’s ownership and staff has not changed.

“We felt that we needed to better communicate the functional focus of the company”, explained company President Ranald McGillis. “’Kongsberg Geospatial’ clearly communicates what we do, and where we fit in as part of Kongsberg Defense Systems.”

The Ottawa - based company has been a leading supplier of geospatial software technology for mission-critical defense and air-traffic control applications for over two decades.  The Company had originally operated as Gallium Visual Systems Inc., and became Kongsberg Gallium after its acquisition by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense Systems in 2006.

The new name is intended to signal the Company’s focus on developing geospatial technology. Over the past few years, the Company has grown significantly, and has focused on developing groundbreaking new geospatial technology in several emerging domains, including new applications for augmented reality, and providing spatial awareness for UAVs operating beyond Visual Line-of-Sight (BVLOS).

Kongsberg Geospatial will be unveiling a new website and new marketing collateral over the next quarter, but Company representatives say that in all the ways that matter, nothing will change for their customers: “There hasn’t been a change in ownership or direction”, explained Robert Aube, Vice President of Operations and Engineering. “We’re fully committed to ensuring our clients’ success, and to providing the exceptional level of performance and support our customers expect of us.”
