Aptima, which applies expertise in how humans think, learn and perform, has announced its merger with Lumir Research Institute, which will combine the companies’ industry-leading capabilities in training which are used throughout the U.S. Department of Defense.

Founded in 1996, Aptima specializes in tools that measure human performance in live-virtual-constructive (LVC) training environments, adaptive learning systems, and other modeling and simulation technologies that improve and optimize Warfighter training and readiness. Lumir, founded in 1999, specializes in objective human performance measurement, training system evaluation, fidelity, and state of the art debriefing tools.

“We’re excited to unite the expertise of these two companies at the forefront of training and human performance,” said Daniel Serfaty, CEO and Principal Founder of Aptima. “We look forward to developing even more innovative, effective, and efficient solutions for the Department of Defense and commercial markets.”

With over 800 Department of Defense contracts, Aptima, whose roots are steeped in research and development has been named to Military Training Technology’s “Top Simulation & Training Companies” for 10 consecutive years.

Given the continually evolving mission demands faced by the US military and its partners around the globe, the merged company, operating under the Aptima brand, will continue to focus on solutions that address individual and team skills for the 21 st century Warfighter.

“Lumir and Aptima have been fortunate to collaborate over the past decade, so this is the logical next step to combining our capabilities,” said Lumir Chief Executive Officer Brian Schreiber.  “Our collective footprint will aid in transitioning our research and development as to how training is best designed, delivered, and measured, and extending those solutions to the Government and other customers.”

Currently, the companies’ respective technologies are in use throughout the DoD, with Aptima possessing a strong presence with the U.S. Navy and Air Force, and Lumir with the U.S. Air Force.

Aptima is headquartered in Woburn Massachusetts, with offices in Washington DC, Dayton Ohio, and Orlando Florida. Its flagship products include PM Engine TM , a suite of software that measures mission-critical decision-making and performance for individuals and teams in LVC training environments; SPOTLITE ® , a mobile app for instructors to easily assess performance wherever training occurs; and the Advanced Learning Management Platform, which adapts and customizes training and feedback to optimize skills development.

The two privately held companies did not disclose terms of the merger.
