Press Release checklist …

The following information will give you a check list and general guidelines to write your press release for distribution through ASDWire.
A well written press release captures the attention of journalists. But don’t focus on the content only, pay as much attention to the presentation.

1. General tips

  • Use Title Case for your Headline and limit the length. If your Headline is more than 120 characters use sub titles.
Be careful using UPPER CASE characters to emphasize certain phrases.
  • Always follow the rules of grammar and style. Errors in grammar and style affect your credibility.
  • Don’t write your press release online at first instance, but use a word processor. This will improve your result. And don’t forget to read it from a hard copy print before you release it.
  • Use standard plain text for your press release and be careful with special characters. Your press release will be read all over the world and not everybody has the same (advanced) software.
  • Always ask for written permission if you want to use ticker symbols, or quotes from employees or affiliates from other companies or organizations.
  • Use more than one paragraph and try to make them of equal length. Don’t make your sentences to long. It will enlarge the probability of mistakes in further processing.
  • Use the following build-up for your press release:
    - Headline
    - Subtitle
    - Start 1st paragraph with: place,date
    - 2nd, 3rd paragraph
    - “About Company” (paragraph per company/organization involved)
    - Forward looking statement (if applicable)
    - Contact details (Name, position, tel., fax, email, url)

2. Attachments, files & images

You can attach 6 files or images with an ASDWire distribution. Images will be resized automatically. The quality of your original image should be minimal 1600 x 1200px (2,1M) if intended for print quality.
Files attachments can be all kinds of extensions. (.pdf, .txt, .doc, .pps etc)

3. Example press release

Finca wins 2-year TxU contract for supporting Dutch SME companies in the Offset related Defence market

Amsterdam, Netherlands (ASDWire) October 11, 2004 -- Finca has won a 2-year contract for supporting SME companies in the Northern part of the Netherlands. The program (NWP CP), funded by the foundation TxU Noord-Nederland, has the objective to improve the competences of the participating companies. Especially quality systems, relation management, and proposal/contract knowledge will be important. The offset mechanism will be used to support this program by real business cases. Furthermore, the available knowledge on foreign offset obligations within the TxU, in combination with Finca's network in the Aerospace & Defence market will give this program an excellent basis for success.

TxU-project manager Eric Hoefman says: 'we are aiming for 20 to 25 participating companies in the program who we will support hands-on in their efforts to be successful in this market'. As a result of the program we expect clusters to be formed and special subprograms to be initiated. Finca will not only support the companies by creating an "easy-to-access" environment for the Defence market, but will also work with them improving the required competences.

NWP CP is a derivative from the pilot project "Offset orders" from the MEA and the government funded Investment and Development Agency NOM. In the last two years Mr. Ko van Amerongen from the MEA perfectly paved the way for this new program from TxU.
